OVI Aerial City Maps Show Detailed 3D Views Of Buildings & Objects
Check out these 3D city maps: http://maps.ovi.com/3d/
OVI maps is offering up competition to Google's Earth & Maps products. You might say that OVI is a rip-off of Google maps, but they've given Google a reason to to sincerely flatter them back.
The technology requires a browser plugin in order to work, and only selected cities have been imaged. Other complaints: the keyboard controls are jerky and the viewing angle doesn't allow you to to descend below about 30 degrees above the plane. And it needs a flight simulator...
iPhone Location History is Saved in a File
It is common knowledge that your phone's network provider tracks and logs your location, but this is only available to law enforcement that files a subpoena to access that information.
In a revelation that has raised privacy concern, it has been discovered that Apple iPhones are saving your tracking data to a file that not just saved to your phone, but synchronized with your computer over iTunes.
The file is saved in this path:
/Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups/

“Geolocation Gone Terrible” – with Google’s help, black hat hackers can pinpoint some web users via Javascript XSS
Samy Kamkar presents a Javascript that attempts to load web administration interfaces of different types of routers inside a hidden IFRAME, then after attempts to post an HTML Form to the router in order to access the router's MAC address. The exploit then uses google streetview service to retrieve your location. Or at least the location of your router the last time the street view car drove by it.
This is a great reason to not use the default password for your router, or to use the default IP address for your router. Change either of those and this hack is defeated. Or just abandon civilization entirely.

Twitter acquires, poorly supports, then shuts down Geo-coding service
Be careful about building a business that relies on a proprietary service. You may wake up to find that the service doesn't work or is being shut down. The Droid Guy writes:
"In December 2009 Twitter purchased Mixer Labs, whose Geo-API had a database of over 16 million businesses with a reverse geo-coder and support for geo-coded tweets. It was this Geo-API for which the framework of Service Tattler, RateCred and several other location based Twitter intensive applications are made. That is until the end of this month when Twitter shuts the service down."

Google Earth 6 Released! 3D Trees, Seamless Street View, Historical Imagery
A new major release for Google Earth has arrived! The biggest improvement is the addition 3D Trees, which will only show if you have the 3D buildings layer activated.
Next improvement is seamless integration with Streetview. No longer is the web-based Google maps superior to Earth, they're pretty much equivalent now... they both have the perspective zooming transition between different street view spheres.
Finally, Historical imagery is now easier to access with a icon that appears on the bottom when historical images are available, and a "Time Slider" to allow you to roll back the clock.
We love it when our favorite program becomes significantly better. Read more for videos...
